Why Should I Detox?

In a world with foods that are heavily laden with preservatives and chemicals, beverages that are filled with ingredients we cannot even pronounce and the highest levels of air pollutants that we have ever seen, it should come as no surprise that our bodies are filled with a number of nasty and harmful toxins.

While it is unfortunate that there are some toxins we will never be able to avoid, like air pollution, there are steps that we can take to not only rid our bodies of many of these pollutants and help to prevent such a high build-up from reoccurring. The first step in getting rid of these invaders, is a good detox.

Detoxification is the act of removing toxins from the body. There are various ways that a person can detox, however the two most commonly used are fasting and colon cleansing. Both of these terms often strike fear into the hearts of those that are not well versed in these methods of body cleansing, however the act of actually performing one of these cleanses is not as terrifying as you may think.

The Importance of Fasting


Fasting is extremely important to the health of your body and should be performed regularly to keep your body functioning properly. Fasting provides many health benefits, from the removal of toxins that have built up in the body to better organ function. It is essentially one of the best methods for detoxing the body.

The digestive process takes a great deal of energy from the body. This process becomes even more draining with many of the heavy, processed foods that people frequently eat. With so much energy being diverted to digestion, many of the other organs in the body suffer, because they do not have adequate levels of energy necessary for them to function properly and heal themselves from normal wear and tear.

When you fast, the energy that is usually spent digesting food is able to be dispersed through the rest of the body to these other organs. New cell growth is better able to take place, which helps to repair damage to your organs and improve immune function. The body has an easier time removing toxins that have built up, which helps to purify your blood and cleanse cells and tissues.

By fasting, you give your body a chance to heal. This method of detoxing can help to treat or even cure many of the illnesses and ailments that you may be suffering from, as well as to help them from occurring in the first place.

The Benefits of Colon Cleansing


Colon cleansing is another popular method of cleansing, and is another form of natural treatment that is often misunderstood. A proper and thorough colon cleanse to detox the body uses fibers and natural herbs to cleanse the colon of old fecal matter, intestinal plaques and toxins that reside in these debris. In fact, a number of the toxins that are released into our bodies are caused by digestion alone. Many of the foods we now eat can take days to be broken down by our bodies. Essentially, this hard to digest food is actually rotting in your colon, and releasing it's own toxins that can cause distress to your body and organs.

Colon cleansing is an excellent way to detoxify the body, and rid yourself of the toxins that are wearing you down. It can help to cure many intestinal issues, like frequent constipation or diarrhea, or excessive gas and bloating which are all signs that your body is not functioning properly.

In this day and age, it is inevitable that our bodies are going to be constantly bombarded with pollutants and toxins. Fortunately, though it is unavoidable it is not irreversible. Detoxing on a regular basis will help to keep the level of toxins your body must overcome low, and help you to lead a long and healthy life.
