One class of ingredients are the food preservatives. These are chemicals. They do not act to enhance the body's function. Food contains nutrients that do enhance the body's function. You will not be preserved like processed food with all these chemicals in your body.

Simply put, if a human made it, consider it processed. This includes your lunch meats, frozen dinners and dry packaged foods.

Processing food has been with us a long time. I can remember my mother and grandmother canning peaches and pears. What is the problem? And when did it become a processed food diet?

A fresh peach is always better than canned. Even when grandmother canned it. Because the fresh peach is alive with all its nutrients. Whatever the method of canning, some nutrients are lost. This is a fact. Ah... But, those peaches sure were good in January.

Yes, even frozen organic food is processed. Which is as close to what your grandmother would have done. Short of having grandmother still doing your canning. Oh... Would that ever be great! Grandma used simple ingredients to get the job done.

This is different than the processed food diet products that lines your local store's shelves. Pick up some of the common items like, ketchup, spaghetti sauce or cereal. These more than likely have High Fructose Corn Syrup or HFCS. Quite possibly the cause of the obesity epidemic we keep hearing about.

Salad dressing, peanut butter and vegetable oils have hydrogenated oils.
Trans fat
is most often found in baked goods.

Aspartame, an artificial sweetener linked to neurological disease,
has taken over it seems. I stopped chewing gum because I just couldn't find any without aspartame.

It seems even our fresh fruits and vegetables can't escape man's hand. Enter irradiation. Who would ever have conceived of radiating food as a good idea?

Add food additives into the mix and you end up with quite the concoction. You need plain simple food to feed your body. As close to unaltered by humans as possible. The food industry has long known the havoc a processed food diet with it's mix of additives can cause us.

MSG obesity
is a known condition resulting from a food additive. And fortified foods have become the rage with manufacturers enticing us with their promises of added nutrients.

Processed food is made in a facility or food factory. They buy their ingredients like spices, oils, noodles, etc. from other factories in bulk. That means that if anything should go wrong in the manufacturing of the product, large recalls occur. And in the case of a suppliers product, the recalls could end up being massive.

An example of this would be the recent HVP Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein product recall (FDA). Even more recently, is the FDA recall of both red and black pepper supplied in bulk to manufacturers. How much food can a 50 pound bag of Salmonella contaminated ground red pepper affect? A problem originated from just one supplier in the processed food diet chain.

Section targeting Here, enters organics. I would say fresh raw fruits and vegetables are perfect. After all, if they needed aspartame or high fructose corn syrup, I'm sure mother nature would have taken care of that for us.

I know how dependent you can get on the fast, frozen dinners. I had found myself there too. Here's what I did. Replace the regular with organic frozen meal. And then even cut back on this too. Use more fresh produce. Eliminating processed foods will also save you money on your food budget for the more wholesome food choices.

A strange thing happened in my house. You know how kids hate eating vegetables at dinner?

Well, I by chance, found out they all liked the vegetables raw. So, I would make up a veggie tray and let them at it.

You can make fresh fruits and vegetables available to your kids and see what they pick. Then acknowledge their healthy food choice.

You will be surprised at what change can occur with a small effort.

Don't be discouraged if the kids don't go for the veggies right away. Be patient. Eat them yourself. Set an example.

The human body wants to survive. Good healthy food without preservatives is food your body needs to function at its best. Even kids will eat healthy in the long run if given the chance.

When you do give your kids the chance to choose healthy in organics, your reward will be their health. What's more sensible than that?
