Organic Fruits: A Winter Price Rip Off?
Section targetingOrganic fruits look so good in the winter. Ah, but the price. Should you be spending the extra to get organic?Soil health relates directly to the plants health. Soil, rich with nutrients, produce plants that are healthy. Healthy plants produce an abundance of nutrient rich and healthy fruit. Conventionally grown fruit really don't have severe regulations imposed on the growing practices. Fruits, trees and vines are prone to pests and disease.
Pesticides
are used with abandon. As if pesticides weren't bad enough, the timing of the spraying is significant. When the trees are sprayed during blooming, the chemicals would get into the flowers. The flowers then become the source of the fruit. Now the poisons are in the fruit. Washing the fruit only washes the surface, not the inside. And strawberries don't survive a good scrubbing. Fruit that is organic is produced according to
organic standards.
Synthetic chemical pesticides are not permitted. The organic methods work with the environment to enhance the soil quality. As a result they reap healthy, nutritious fruit. You benefit from the lack of chemicals and the high nutrient content. Looking at the whole picture, it just may be the least costly.
