Mar 7, 2010, Red and Black Pepper Recalled | 245 People Become Sick
Commercial suppliers, Wholesome Spice Company and Mincing Overseas Spice Company recall red and black pepper.
This is the result of an FDA investigation to determine the source of Salmonella comtamination. Contamination has resulted in 245 people in at least 44 states becoming ill.

Mar 7, 2010, FDA Recall of HVP, Common Processed Food Ingredient
The FDA reports that Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein is being recalled because of Salmonella contamination.
HVP is used in processed foods as a "flavor enhancer". Since the recall is from the manufacturer, a growing list of products have been affected.
Soup mixes and dips that you mix with yogurt or sour cream pose a risk because these mixes are ready to eat.
