Natural Health Products: Organic or Synthetic?

By the name alone, Natural Health Products, would you expect synthetic ingredients?

When you reach for your vitamins, do you know what is in them?

A 1985 Ipsos Reid poll for Health Canada found that 71% of Canadians take NHPs.

And 52% think that these products are safe because they are made from natural ingredients.

A sensible assumption. But is it?

In Canada the products include, herbal remedies, homeopathic medicines, vitamins, minerals, traditional medicines, probiotics, amino acids and fatty acids.

The Natural Health Products Directorate (NHPD) are the charges in Canada. The FDA is responsible in the US.

I must inform you that synthetic duplicates of these natural substances are permitted. Surprising, yet true!

Apparently, it was reasoned that since they are copies of natural substances they are the same. But are they? How can an artificial substitute provide the same benefit as the real natural nutrient?

It is important to know that not all vitamins and supplements are created equal.

Is it real to you that nutrients obtained from food are better than supplements? They are obtained in combination of a whole and are easily absorbed and utilized.

Then, let me ask you. Wouldn't it stand to reason that supplements from natural sources would be better than synthetic chemical copies?

Section targetingNatural source supplements are real. Just by their source alone, wouldn't they be more in line with what you want to supplement? Your diet. You are, after all, supplementing your diet aren't you?

I don't know anyone that wants to supplement with a lab concoction. It's not like you would create a laboratory brew when you want soup. Would you?

Then let's not accept this in your natural health products.

These products are permitted to use "non-medicinal" ingredients. These ingredients must be listed. You would take exception, I'm sure to aspartame being used. And yet, it is used!

Supplements, you may conclude, would benefit you and your family.

Get the most benefit you can for your dollar. Read the labels and pick natural source. Organic natural source would be awesome!

When you know about something, sensible solutions emerge with ease. Purchase the standard of quality you demand in supplements for your family.
