Healthy Eating: Where To Start?

by Diana

I know I don't eat healthy. But, at my age I'm so set in my routine and busy life, I really don't know where to start.

Help, what should I do first? I have to ask because I know I wouldn't cut out everything bad for me all at once.

Healthy Eating First Step
by: Doris

Diana,

A complete change of diet can be overwhelming. That fact in itself is why many people give up on the effort of healthy eating.

Your question is one that I get asked most often. It is the foundation of healthy eating and without this answered many just don't ever even start.

The first thing that you should do is cut out sugar. Sugar robs your body of energy. Sure, you get a fast sugar high, but that quickly leaves and you feel crashed.

Then you should cut out foods that convert to sugar quickly. By this I mean foods that quickly digest and just cause the same problems as sugar.

This would be the simple carbohydrates like you'll find in white bread and foods made with white flour. Note that wheat flour is just another name for white flour.

Instead, eat whole grain breads or pastas. Since they use the whole grain, they still have fiber. They also haven't lost all their nutrients in processing.
