Healthy Eating Guidelines: The Healthy Eating Facts

Without healthy eating guidelines, how do you decide on healthy foods to eat or make your healthy eating plans? These facts keep the guidelines simple to follow.

Our eating healthy guidelines came naturally when I was growing up. We just ate what mom put on the table. Mom hadn't heard about organic food. She used wholesome ingredients from our garden.

To serve healthy meals, you have to know a few healthy eating guidelines.

Do you have a healthy eating question. Click here to submit your question.

So, let's take a look...

Your body needs nutrients to survive. These nutrients come from the food you eat or they don't.

Food can be divided into three categories, you could say. These are protein, fat and carbohydrates. Each of these three have their own nutrients. And you need all of them.

If you cut out fat, for example, then you are missing essential fatty acids which are required for every body system.

The result is in effect, your body is starving. The essential fatty acids must be obtained. So you end up hungry and over eating.

Another way to miss out on nutrients is with hydrogenated oils. These oils inhibit the absorption of nutrients. They are man made creations and of no benefit to you. Avoid them.

Nutrients enhance body functions. They are used right down to the cellular level.

Now, chemicals act differently...

Chemicals don't enhance the body's chemistry-they change it. They don't feed the cells, they affect the chemistry of the cells.

Food additives are added to processed food. Processing can strip nutrients and taste which the manufacturers then replace; as in enriched foods. Manufacturers has even gone so far as to add nutritients that wouldn't normally be there; as in fortified foods.

Man-made synthetic vitamins are found in processed foods. Do you think a man made copy of a nutrient is the same as what occurs naturally?

And how can man possibly add all the trace nutrients in the same proportion that Mother Nature had done?

Eliminating processed foods may just be the most significant change you can make toward healthy eating. You would be eliminating chemicals and offering your body a chance to recover.

Skip down to ask your healthy eating question.

If you are looking for safe weight loss, don't eliminate fats and carbohydrates. Your body needs the nutrients from all categories of food.

Try this instead...

Go organic by sensibly replacing conventional foods with organic whenever you can. The biggest reason for this is that the organic produce is grown without chemical pesticides.

Know that processed food is processed even if it is organic. True, organic is better, but limit organic processed foods as well.

Just keep in mind that the most value comes from food that has been altered the least. A perfect example of this is the Greek Mediterranean Diet, (opens new window) where fresh is key to healthy eating. Recognizing this fact, then makes deciding what to eat easier as you set your own healthy eating guidelines.
