Healthy Cooking: Keeping It Simple

What you choose at the grocery store affects your healthy cooking efforts. Without healthy ingredients your cooking healthy ideals won't even get a running start. Start with buying wholesome foods, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Avoid the dangers of pesticides by selecting organic whenever you can. This is also your best choice in avoiding new foods. The non-threatening name given to genetically modified organisms (gmo) or genetically modified food as it is also sometimes called.

Now, you need meat, chicken or fish. Farms today have become huge operations. Animals crowded and fed quite possibly animal by-product feed. A practice that has lead to the spread of mad cow disease. The conditions make the animals prone to illness. Buy your meats organic or even all natural.

Ok, good. Now what are you going to do about the gravy? The topping of your meal.

You could make it yourself or buy the package. The packaged gravies and sauces are processed foods and full of additives. The healthy way to go is to make it yourself. Here are several recipes for organic gravy and sauces.

When you cook, know that the least alteration you do to food would provide the most nutrients. Cooking does cause the loss of some nutrients. So...

Lightly cook your vegetables. By to way, my kids even preferred them raw! One last point about healthy cooking is to avoid canola oil. You will do much better with organic cold pressed olive oil or safflower oil. Both have proven themselves healthy over generations.
