Healthy Cooking Tips

These 10 Healthy Cooking Tips help you get the most value from your food.

1. Start with organic food whenever you can.

2. Wash all fruits and vegetables. Wash oranges before peeling. Even organic can have residues.

3. Cook vegetable until slightly tender. Don't over cook and leave their nutrients in the water.

4. Use some of the potato water from cooking to make your gravy. This way the nutrients are put back into the meal.

5. Provide two vegetable choices at meals. Your kids then have an option if they don't like one of them. This worked wonders in my home.

6. Check the ingredients of store bought sauces like stir fry, marinade or cheese sauce. Avoid their additives by making your own or using organic.

7. Keep the hot food hot and the cold food cold.

8. Use fresh ingredients whenever possible. Canned does qualify as processed.

9. Season with herbs. An Italian mix or salad mix of herbs adds flavor without salt.

10. Know that sea salt is still salt, so limit it's use.

Healthy cooking starts with you having the mind set that the least alteration you make to the food would provide the most nutrients. Add to that, organic food ingredients and you're well on your way to healthy cooking.
