Genetically Modified Food: What Did You Eat Yesterday?

SiteSell Services Without an organic dinner surprisingly, you may have eaten genetically modified food without even knowing. In Canada and the U.S. the food industry and growers don't have to let us know.

With as much as 70% of the food now containing gmf or 30,000 products, I can only imagine we haven't been told because we just might get a tad upset about it.

The genetically modified crops are supposed to handle drought better, or have more nutrients. Who knows, maybe one day you can get your daily dose of pharmaceuticals in your morning cereal.

An exaggeration...

Not really. You see, pretty much anything could be dreamed up and given a try. How about bananas that produce the human vaccine against hepatitis B? I found this promoted on the US government Human Genome Project site. Or, what about Terminator seeds that are genetically altered to be infertile after the first harvest?

Currently the crops that are genetically modified are corn, soybeans, canola, alfalfa, tomatoes, wheat and cotton. Since we don't need to be informed. And since the food processors may not even know, your families safest bet is organic. This playing with mother nature isn't permitted in the growing and production of certified organic foods. I do have good news. You can identify some genetically modified produce. Recall that your produce has a sticker on it. This sticker has a PLU code. Genetically modified food would have a five digit code beginning with an "8".

Consider the amount of foods that are made from just corn or soybeans. You have the cooking oils, bread, cereal, noodles, soy, soy drinks, cornstarch, sauces. The list just goes on and on.

SBI! ProofSo read the labels. If it has corn or soybean of any sort, put it back and get the product as organic instead. This is your safest choice.

Anyone who tells you that genetically modified food is the answer to hunger is lying to you. There is no way we could ever fathom all the possible variables that could occur as a result of this solution to world hunger. I would say that the experiment is on and the results won't be in for a generation or two.

What you can do is to take your family out of this potential danger as much as possible. Take a sensible approach to your diet by choosing organic as often as you can.
