Childhood Obesity Facts: You Can Do Something
Today, obesity in children has hit an all time high. This is a real concern for many mothers. Yet, when you know the childhood obesity facts you can help your child. Growing up in a small farming community, we always took our lunch to school. Today, with busy lifestyles and effective advertising, children buy their lunch. Or they expect fun packaged products from the grocery store to make up their lunch. And this is the root of the problem. Let me explain... Processed foods are loaded with additives. All of them FDA approved. Yet, some of them actually contribute to childhood obesity. You can find out more about the food industry secrets in this revealing e-book, authored by Astrid Lasco's.

Take msg. This ingredient does occur naturally in some foods with no problems occurring, as in beets. Yet, when man took it upon himself to create this as a food additive, it no longer had the same effects as the naturally occurring source. MSG is an excitotoxin. This means it acts to over excite the neurons of the central nervous system. It causes such vigorous activity at the cellular level that brain cells die. This additive has a very tight link to obesity. In fact, this is what is given to lab rats to cause obesity. Scientists need fat rodents to do their obesity experiments on. Oh yes, scientists create obese rats using msg.
It is referred to as msg obesity.
So, the first thing to do, is remove all foods containing msg from your child's diet. Some other names would be meat tenderizer, flavor enhancer, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, Accent and glutamate. Next is aspartame. This additive is also an excitotoxin. Effective advertising has made this the sweetener of choice. Even more so for the weight conscious person. So it just may be shocking to you, to find out that one of the over 92 reported side effects is slow and steady weight gain. Another side effect is to crave foods with this ingredient. Aspartame is a toxin. It acts to alter the body's chemistry and results in illness. Definitely not what you intended when you bought the diet soda. Read your labels. You will find it in cereals, snacks, chewing gum, soda pop and even yogurt. In fact it is the most used food additive, but it can be avoided. Just get in the habit of reading the ingredients. Then there are the hydrogenated fats or oils. Did you know that your body actually needs fat to function. Yes, essential fatty acids are obtained from fat. They are needed in everybody system for proper function. One of the problems with hydrogenated oils is that they have zero essential fatty acids. They are nutrient dead, you could say. And to make things worse, they also inhibit the absorption of nutrients. So not only do they have no nutrients, they also deprive the body of nutrients from other foods. This puts the body into a starvation effect. It must obtain the essential fatty acids, so satiety is never reached and you overeat. Avoid all foods containing hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. It is interesting to note that the removal of trans fat has little effect on the harm from hydrogenated fats. Trans fat is a by product of the hydrogenation process. Removing it does not give hydrogenated oils nutritional value. These food additives pose the greatest source of obesity in our children. In fact, removing processed foods from your child's diet may just be the single greatest thing you could do to ensure their lifelong health.
