The described purpose for the act is... "An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts" Currently I am hearing government radio ads promoting how they are going to have greater powers in product safety and to force recalls. Oh yes, they are! But have they gone too far for a free country? I took a look and found... This Bill C-51 makes significant changes to the current Food and Drug Act and makes amendments to 16 other Acts. This includes changes in definitions. Drugs would be referred to as "therapeutic devices". Therapeutic is a term we have come to consider used in natural health products. So if we now call drugs therapeutic, then there is no distinction between those chemicals that alter body chemistry and those substances that enhance the body's function. Yet in reality these are two widely differing effects. Just imagine the confusion this would cause. As a free society, we have elected officials that vote bills into effect after debate according to the constitution. This bill in effect eliminates this democratic process when it grants bureaucrats the authority to adopt policies and laws from other nations as regulations. All without ever going to the House. Now ask yourself "Who would benefit from this bureaucratic power?" Click here to share your review of Bill C-51 with visitors to this page. This legislation would effectively remove 70 percent of the Natural Health Products from your use and choice. And the other 30 percent, well that would need a prescription. Just imagine needing a prescription for your supplements. And that is, if you can still get them. Oh, think that you'll just go ahead and get them from the US or overseas? Well, importing is tightened up as well. The bureaucratic red tape may just be too much for a foreign supplement manufacturer to bother with Canada. Of course, I am sure that the pharmaceutical companies would be willing to supply their version or drug in it's stead. Further, this bill will restrict research and development of safe alternatives in favor of high risk drugs. Pharmaceutical companies cannot patent vitamins. They are naturally occurring. But what if you couldn't have your natural products? Would you then be forced to use a drug to aid you. Have you ever given your child vitamins? No, you can't do that. To do that you need a license or face prosecution. To enforce this massive legislation requires inspectors. Here is a partial list of their proposed powers... - inspectors can enter private property without a warrant -inspectors can take your property at their discretion -inspectors can dispose of your property at will -inspectors will not reimburse you for your losses -inspectors will charge owners shipping and storage of seized property -inspectors will be empowered to store your property indefinitely - inspectors will levy fines to a maximum of $5,000,000 and can seek 2 years incarceration per incident. - you must provide the inspector assistance and you must provide the inspector information - inspector may enter on or pass through or over private property without being liable for doing so and without the owner of the property having the right to object to that use of the property - (and for a private dwelling) refusing entry in a dwelling is sufficient grounds for a warrant
You know, I enjoy having a cup of Chamomile tea sometimes. And I have even told a friend how Vitamin C will shorten the life of a cold bug. I go to the Health Food Store, where I pick up my supplements. That is now. Each of these simple actions would not be permitted under this legislation. You can let Bill C-51 pass without a hint of objection. Or you can make your opinion known and your voice heard.
